How I Found the Perfect Pet-Friendly Escape During Hurricane Helene—In Under an Hour
When a hurricane’s on the way, finding a safe place to stay can feel impossible. Especially when you have pets—and every available room in the region is disappearing by the minute.
Last month, during Hurricane Helene, a friend of mine was facing that exact challenge.
In a crisis, the goal isn’t just finding a room—it’s finding the right room.
My friend called in a panic—she had two cats, limited time, and every search online showed “sold out” or “no pets allowed.” The places that did have space were either still in the storm’s projected path or charging astronomical rates for bare-bones rooms.
I jumped in and did what I do best: look beyond the obvious listings.
Within an hour, I found a pet-friendly hotel well outside the storm zone—not just a safe room, but a comfortable suite with a kitchenette and space for her cats to roam. Even better, it included free breakfast and a late checkout, giving her extra breathing room when returning home wasn’t yet safe.
This is what we aim to do for our clients at Rintoul Travel Adventures.
Whether it’s an unexpected evacuation or a dream vacation, we dig deeper to find the safest, most comfortable, and most valuable options available—often under circumstances where others settle for “good enough.”
We can’t stop the storm, but we can make sure you ride it out somewhere you—and your pets—will be safe and cared for.
So the next time you’re planning travel—or facing an urgent change of plans—ask yourself:
Do I just want a place to stay—or the right place to stay?
